To the trip

Travel Blog | Day 3-4 |

Vienna, Bad Goisern, Hallstatt, Obertraun

On 14th May

There was no reliable public transportation to our Airbnb location as it was located away from the city next to a river in the mids of a valley. This is one of the reasons, we rented a car.

While we were driving towards Bad Goisern Town(near Hallstatt), we received a call. This call was from reception where we booked our stay for the next two nights. As we had spent too much time in Vienna exploring the city, we started a bit late from there. But as the reception of the place where we were staying, was open only till 6 in the evening. Luckily for us before leaving they put our keys and everything in the room, we just need to open the digital lock of the house with a pin and we could check into the room by ourselves.

They sent all the relevant information by message over chat like room number, pin(door lock), etc. We said thank you to them, as they were very kind and supportive of us over the message.

We reached Bad Goisern Town around 9:00pm on the 14th of May. We stayed there for two nights. Since it is 17km away from Hallstatt and we had our own transportation, it was really convenient to explore nearby places of Hallstatt as well.

On 15th May

We started early in the morning. It was still cloudy but we were hoping it to get better as the day progresses. We parked our car in Hallstatt town. There were three parking spaces outside the town. There is no public parking available inside the town and the streets are very narrow. You need to park out and walk all the way inside the town. But it is a pleasant walk just next to the lake and an eye-catching view. If the weather is favorable you can get plenty of opportunity to click photos. Just like we had.

About Hallstatt: Hallstatt is a small picturesque village located in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. It is known for its beautiful scenery, crystal-clear lakes, and snow-capped mountains. The village is nestled between the Hallstätter See and the Dachstein mountain range. Highlights of the village include the salt mine, the Catholic church, and the Hallstatt Museum. A trip to Hallstatt is complete when you take a stroll along the lake and marvel at the views of the surrounding mountains. This town is very small. You can explore the whole town by walk.

On 16th May

We decided to go to Obertraun town, which is situated on the other side of Hallstatt Lake. So we went there by car and did a 2.5km trek on the mountainside. We were amazed to see so many different types of plants and insects in that forest. It was really a wonderful experience. Once we reached the waterfall side, We saw that waterfall is no more active but the view of the city was mesmerizing and breathtaking.

We relaxed there for some time and had snacks which we took with us. That view was so satisfactory, so we decided to not go to five finger point and City cable car up to the mountains. But if you want, you can easily check both these places by public transportation also. The cable car needs an extra ticket also. You can also take a boat ride on Lake Hallstatt, which seems very peaceful and relaxing.
