Exploring near St.Moritz and Tirano, Bernina Express route

On 19th May

As usual, we started our morning with our daily routine and had breakfast in the hostel. Our next train was Bernina Express which was another panoramic train just like Glacier Express that starts from Chur to Tirano(Italy) via St.Moritz. As our Bernina Express was after 4pm in the evening we had half day left so we started to explore St.moritz and nearby towns.

We had activated our Eurail ticket for the day and took regional trains to see nearby towns. St. Moritz is a small town so it took only 2-3 hours to roam around.

We also explored a few nearby towns like Samedan, Bever, and Thusis.

Tourist Attraction in St.Moritz:

St. Moritz City walk
Mauritius Chruch, Old buildings in center
Glaciers viewpoints
Winter Sports events
Biking, Hiking trails on mountains
Samedan, Bever, Thusis Town
Destination of Glacier Express and startpoint of Bernina Express

About St. Moritz

St Moritz is of the most popular ski resort in Switzerland. The St Moritz’s ski area is composed of several mountains with extensive ski runs across them, undulating over the forested hills. This chic Swiss town is well-known for its luxurious shops, restaurants, and hotels. St. Moritz, which is in the Upper Engadine, at an elevation of 1,856 m, boasts plenty of sunny days. It was exactly this sun that was legally protected as the emblem of St. Moritz in 1930. St. Moritz was often ahead of the times – for example, the first electric light went on at Christmastime in 1878, the first golf tournament in the Alps took place here, in 1889 and one of the first ski lifts in Switzerland began running in 1935.
Sights such as the leaning tower, a remnant of the Mauritius Church from around 1500, or the Segantini Museum, offer a change from the life of luxury and the jet set.
In the evening, around 4:00 we took the next panoramic train, called Bernina Express, and Started our journey towards Italy. Bernina Express also offers a lot of viewpoints, listed below. It took 3hrs to reach Tirano.  Finally, we arrived in Italy around. After check-in, we started our walk in the town. It is a small town and there are a lot of older buildings which didn’t have any entry fees.

20th may

We started our day a bit casually and also relaxing. We have been running the last 3 days like crazy. We had a good night’s rest and were again ready to go around to buy groceries to get a good home-cooked meal.

As it was Airbnb, We had the kitchen, very 1st thing in the morning, we go out to do some grocery shopping, come back home and we cook food. It was dal, rice, and salad, nicely done with limited resources. “Home-cooked food”

We saw one hiking point last night from our Airbnb so we decided to go there. So I packed our lunch and snacks and went there. It was not a long hike but it took 4 hrs and around 13-14 km walk to go and back. From the Top, We saw a really amazing view of the town and the green mountain covered with grape farms. We stayed in Tirano for 3 nights and 3 days. It was a relaxing stay. On 21st May, we continued our journey toward Noale via Milan.

About Tirano: Tirano is a charming town situated on the foothills of the Alps, close to the Swiss border. One of the best ways to explore this beautiful Italian village is by taking the Bernina Express, a scenic train ride that offers stunning views of the Alps. Tirano is also known for its wine production, cheese, and local gastronomy. Tirano’s main attraction is the 17th-century Sanctuary of Madonna di Tirano, an impressive and stunning church with an ornate baroque interior.
